After checking in your downtown hotel, we will visit some highlights of Anchorage including Lake Hood the world’s largest seaplane base – where you can watch floatplane land and take off, Ship Creek – where local Alaskans fish for salmon, and the colorful downtown court. Afterwards we may enjoy a stroll along the 12-Mile Coastal Trail with never ending view across Cook Inlet towards Mt. McKinley and the Alaska Range. The remaining day is at leisure. You can explore the downtown court or enjoy a seafood dinner with fresh crab, halibut or salmon in one of Anchorage’s restaurants.

Anchorage – Seward  (Travel Distance: 120 Miles)
We follow the Seward Highway along the North Shore of Turnagain Arm through the Chugach State Park and enjoy panoramic views of the Chugach & Kenai Mountains. At Beluga Viewpoint we have a good chance to spot Beluga Whales, Dall Sheep, Mountain Goats or Moose. We pass Alyeska – Alaska’s largest ski area and arrive in Seward. Seward is home to Exit Glacier, where we can walk right up to the glacier and feel the dense blue ice while listening to it crackle. In the afternoon we may spend some time at the Alaska SeaLife Center – the world’s first cold water marine search institute with wildlife rehabilitation and public education facilities.
03
Seward
Today we join the spectacular full-day Kenai Fjords wildlife and glacier cruise. This thrilling full-day cruise travels throughout the Kenai Fjords National Park and the Chiswell Islands National Wildlife Refuge. Covering 120-miles, the trip is narrated by a National Park Ranger, who is highly adept at spotting wildlife, pointing out the many spectacular sights, and fielding any questions you may have. Wildlife is abundant throughout the National Park, and the tidewater glaciers are massive. You'll visit the mighty Holgate Glacier where guests often witness calving - a process by which glaciers shed giant blocks and slabs of ancient ice - from a close distance. This cruise also offers the best opportunity for whale watching in Alaska. Watch for Steller Sea Lions, Whales, Dolphins, Bald Eagles, Harbor Seals and a variety of shore birds which inhabit or migrate throughout the area. Lunch included: Alaska salmon and prime rib meal served buffet style.
04
Seward – Homer  (Travel Distance: 180 Miles)
Our van tour continues on the Kenai Peninsula towards Homer. The Sterling Highway - a designated scenic road covers miles of spectacular landscape with snowcapped mountains and volcanoes (Mt. Iliamna, Mt. Redoubt, and Mt. Augustine), deep ocean bluffs, excellent salmon fishing opportunities along the Kenai River and a magnificent coastline. We won’t miss a stop at the famous Russian River and Kenai River, to watch anglers standing shoulder-to-shoulder along the river bank and harvesting sockeye and king salmon. Without a doubt the Russian and Kenai River are the most heavily fished salmon stream in Alaska. The Sterling highway comes to an abrupt conclusion at the tip of the Homer Spit, almost 5 miles out of Kachemak Bay. Homer is blessed with a view to the south that is stunning in its beauty and grandeur. The rugged Kenai Mountains spread across the sparkling waters of Kachemak Bay. For a sundowner stop by Salty Dawg Saloon, Homer’s famous landmark.
05
Homer

Today it is time to explore Homer, also called the "Halibut Fishing Capital of Alaska" and Kachemak Bay, one of the richest marine estuaries in the world. We have the option to go for a full day fishing trip for Halibut or Salmon, rent a sea kayak or take a water taxi across Kachemak Bay for a full day hiking trip. There are several hiking trails available from an easy walk to a glacier to strenuous hikes along mountain ridges. In the evening we can board the m/v Danny J at 5 pm for a scenic cruise across Kachemack Bay to the small scenic community Halibut Cove, only accessible by boat. Enjoy a delicious dinner at the Saltry Restaurant, stroll along the boardwalk and visit local art galleries. The Danny J arrives back in Homer by 10 pm.

06
Homer - Talkeetna (Travel Distance: 350 Miles)
Today we return on the Sterling Highway back to Anchorage and drive north on the Parks Highway towards Matanuska Valley. We arrive in Talkeetna whose wilderness location at the base of Mt. McKinley and at the confluence of three wild rivers makes an ideal center for outdoor enthusiasts, climbers, and tourists. The mountains, rivers, glaciers, and meadows in the area provide superb sightseeing, especially by air. After a full day of driving take a walk to “Downtown” Talkeetna offering unique bars with live music, restaurants and small art shops.
07

Talkeetna – Denali National Park (Distance: 155 Miles)
After breakfast enjoy a flightseeing tour to Mt. McKinley. You'll fly over the lush Susitna Valley and enter the ice age world of the Alaska Range. See Mt. McKinley and the Ruth Gorge, the deepest in North America and filled with a 4,000 foot thick river of ice. Experience the Don Sheldon amphitheater surrounded by Granite peaks and cascading icefalls. Your pilot narrates the tour, pointing out wildlife and geological interests. Land on a glacier at the base of Mt. McKinley and experience the excitement of standing among the great peaks; the immense scale will astound you.
We leave Talkeetna and stopover at Byers Lake. Here we have the opportunity to hike around the lake (5 miles) or rent a canoe/kayak and explore the lake on water. We continue along Broad Pass and reach Denali National Park in the early evening.

08
Denali National Park

Today we explore the wonderful sceneries and wildlife of Denali National Park during the full day shuttle bus tour. No private cars are allowed within the park boundaries but a convenient shuttle bus system allows us to the see wildlife along the road or during tundra hikes. After boarding the bus, we sit back, enjoy the scenery and look out for wildlife. Our driver informs us about the history of Denali National Park, its diverse wildlife and flora. Once a bear, caribou, dall sheep or another animal has been spotted the bus will stop that everyone can watch and take pictures. On our way to Eielson Visitor Center, we can get off the bus anytime, take a stroll, go hiking and enjoy the breathtaking landscape.

09
Denali - Fairbanks (Distance: 125 Miles)
Today we leave Denali National Park and drive further north to Fairbanks. We arrive in Fairbanks, which enjoys almost 24 hours of daylight during the summer months. We have time to explore some sights of the former gold rush capital of Alaska: Visit a former gold mine, cruise aboard a sternwheeler on the Chena River or view the Alaska Pipeline. You can also fly in a bush mail plane over Alaska's vast, roadless interior. Enjoy the scenic flight above the arctic circle and experience how the Gwich'in Athabascan Natives live in "Bush" Alaska. Put your hand in the Yukon River, travel through the Wetlands and crest the rounded peaks of the Northern Edge of the Alaska Range looking out for moose and dall sheep.
10
Fairbanks / Day Trip to Chena Hot Springs  (Travel Distance: 57 Miles)
We have an entire day to explore the surrounding area of Fairbanks. We drive to the north of Fairbanks and turn onto Chena Hot Springs road where we have good chances to spot moose. The road leads through a forest of birch, spruce, and cottonwood and then following the Chena River through the state recreation area. There are several hiking trails available – Angel Rock Trail, Angel Rock to Chena Hot Springs and the Chena Dome Trail. In the afternoon relax your muscles in the hot mineral pools of Chena Hot Springs resort. Chena Hot Springs was discovered in August 1905 and became famous for curing crippled prospectors of their aches and pains.
11

Fairbanks – Copper Center (Travel Distance: 260 Miles)
We leave Fairbanks on the world famous Alaska Highway and drive to North Pole with its unique Santa Claus House. We continue on the Richardson Highway - Alaska's first road and during the 1902's gold strike known to many prospectors as  "Eagle Trail". The scenic route follows the Trans-Alaska Pipeline through the Chugach Mountains and along the magnificent scenery of the Wrangell/St. Elias Range with towering 16.237 ft. Mt. Sanford. Stopover: at pipeline pump station #9 and at Copper Center with a historic roadhouse dated back to 1898. In the late afternoon we can drive to the Copper River and watch local fishermen catching the famous Copper River salmon.

12
Copper Center - Anchorage (Travel Distance: 190 Miles)
Today’s journey takes us on the Glenn Highway back to Anchorage. You'll be treated to vistas of forested slopes, glacier-filled valleys and snowy peaks of the Mentasta and Wrangell mountain ranges. The road cuts through the fertile, crop-producing Matanuska Valley and passes right above the Matanuska Glacier. An excellent place to examine glacier-borne rocks and to peer down into crevices since the lower end of the glacier is relatively flat and easily clambered upon. We return to Anchorage in the late afternoon.
