Postcard pretty the Lodge is located at the base of Root Glacier, near the center of the 40 remaining structures of the historically powerful Kennicott Mill. Built in 1987, the Lodge is a replica of one of the historic mining buildings from the copper mining boomtown days. The lodge features a dining room, 2 living rooms, and a 190-foot long front porch with a panoramic view of the Chugach and Wrangell Mountains and Root Glacier. The 25 clean and comfortable guest rooms are decorated with old mining artifacts and photos. Each bedroom has a cold water sink. There are plenty of spotlessly clean bathrooms and shower rooms located throughout the lodge. |

Located ten minutes by air from McCarthy in the heart of Wrangell-St. Elias National Park. Enjoy the serenity of the Alaskan wilderness at the remote fly-in homestead, nestled at the foot of Fireweed Mountain. Overnight accommodation in private furnished cabins with wood stove. Main washing facilities and bath. Family style, all-you-can-eat meals are served in the dining room. We often have outdoor barbecues and our delicious desserts are baked in an old fashioned, wood-fired oven. In the evenings, relax in the cedar hot tub or sauna. To insure a personalized experience, total occupancy is limited to no more than six guests at one time. We will pick up guests at the McCarthy airport or end of the McCarthy Road for a short but scenic flight to the lodge
During your stay we guide you to remote places with wildlife and great scenery. Enjoy a scenic flight over Kennicott Glacier, around the surrounding peaks including 16,390 ft tall Mt. Blackburn and look for wildlife such as Dall Sheep, Mountain Goats, Black Bears. Guests can take advantage of hikes to suit their ability levels and enthusiasm, ranging from nature walks to demanding all-day trips with horses. For serious hikers, we offer guided/unguided treks in nearby fly-in locations offering fantastic mountain scenery and ample opportunities for wildlife viewing. |
