Camp Denali, North Face Lodge - Denali National Park
Camp Denali / North Face Lodge
|
Camp Denali and North Face Lodge are the only accommodations in Denali National Park with views of Mount McKinley. Many park visitors never see “The Great One,” but nine-tenths of our guests catch more than a glimpse of North America’s highest mountain from one of Alaska's most extraordinary locations. Living there makes all the difference! Camp Denali and North Face Lodge are located a mile apart in the center of the park. Ninety miles of mountainous, unpaved road isolate them from the commercially developed park entrance. Nature shapes your experience here. If you are looking for more than a brief introduction to Denali National Park, we aim to exceed your expectations. Hike the park’s backcountry, birdwatch, botanize, and observe wildlife with our naturalist-guides, who know Denali’s trail-less terrain and are students of its flora, fauna, geology, and cultural heritage. We can also help you plan independent adventures. For over fifty years, family stewardship has assured that Camp Denali and North Face Lodge remain small. Each accommodates just 35 to 40 guests. We have limited electricity, few telephones, and no TV or bar. Creative handwork and attention to detail compliment a simple elegance that does not detract from the wild lands you come to explore. Your experience is personal - a unique blend of camaraderie among fellow adventurers and staff in a wilderness setting without parallel. In spite of our remote setting, we cultivate a high standard and commitment to good food. From our greenhouse we gather fresh lettuces, tomatoes, cucumbers, and herbs, as well as edible and decorative flowers. Each day our bakery produces delectable breads, cookies, pastries and desserts. From the tundra we gather and preserve wild berries for you to enjoy as jams and syrups.

Camp Denali
For over fifty years Camp Denali’s extraordinary setting has inspired people from around the world. No less than eight major mountains of the Alaska Range command the view from its unique hillside location. Mount McKinley is even mirrored in the still waters of Nugget Pond, Camp Denali's natural centerpiece. Seventeen guest cabins, varying in size and bed configurations, are carefully situated to capture superlative mountain views. Each is a three to seven-minute walk from the historic hand-hewn log lodge and informal dining room. Cabin appointments affirm Camp Denali’s rustic style - a small wood-burning stove for heat, wall-mounted propane lights, and a gas hot plate for heating water. Colorful patchwork quilts, hand-crafted by the staff, and fine Alaskan artwork display an abiding attention to detail. You can wash in the privacy of your cabin, and each has a convenient "house out back." Every hand-built outhouse is uncompromisingly sanitary, and Mount McKinley is even framed by a small heart in the door. A bathroom/shower building with private hot showers and changing rooms, sinks, and flush toilets is located near the lodge and dining room. You don’t have to be capable of scaling Mount McKinley to enjoy Camp Denali. All you need is an ability to negotiate uneven ground, an enthusiasm for walking, even in the rain, and a spirit of adventure. Each summer Camp Denali hosts a lecture series in cooperation with the Denali Institute. Visiting specialists lend their in-depth understanding of the Far North. Field trip discussions and selected evening programs during their weeklong visits delve into such topics as how animals survive the winter, auroral phenomena, global climate change, and bird migration.

North Face Lodge
Grant Pearson's rustic log cabin still stands on the five acres where North Face Lodge was built in 1973. Situated on a tundra meadow in the Moose Creek Valley, the inn boasts fine views of the crests of Mount McKinley and six other major peaks of the Alaska Range. In the mid-eighties, North Face Lodge was purchased and renovated by Camp Denali’s owners. Its fifteen small, well-appointed guestrooms, each with private bath, connect to a covered walkway that leads to the inn’s comfortably furnished living room and dining room. On cool mornings, a crackling fire in the stone fireplace compliments fine Denali views from the living room’s tall windows. On warm, sunny afternoons, a spacious patio invites relaxation in view of Denali’s summit.
